From listing and selling your home to finalizing the closing documents – somewhere in-between packing and then moving comes into play. One critical item to add to the checklist is notifying the world about an address change. do not forget it is updating your addresses.

Many of us have online billing but that doesn’t mean we don’t need to notify the service provider about address changes.  Think internet, cell service utilities, insurance, trash/recycling, credit cards, and banks to name a few.  Here are the services you will need to make sure you update when you move!

Setting up an account with US Post Office allows the change of address online.  Set up an account today.

Old school mail subscriptions (snail mail)

Magazines, food boxes, journals, repeat deliveries, and magazines are often mailed or delivered to the home addresses.  Most of us don’t go out of our way to notify the federal and state tax agencies but it’s not a bad idea.  Same for Social Security and other government agencies issuing checks. Thankfully the IRS provides a simple online form where you can notify them of your new address.  In Ohio the easiest way to change your address is online at Ohio DMV.

Insurance

Your homeowners and automobile insurance most likely require notification of change of address- especially if you move out of state. Medical, Dental, Drug, and life/term insurance policies have unique requirements -so check with your providers to see what is needed.

Door-to-door delivery services

If boxes from Amazon are often on your front porch- let them know you are moving.  The same goes for grocery stores and food delivery services.  Are you still getting the local newspaper?  Add them to the list to notify.

Family and friends

While you’re conducting the 100 piece band while packing and moving- don’t forget to send an update to family and friends.  You just might need their help unpacking boxes!
