The truth is that packing is not an easy task. It can actually be a daunting task, but you can simplify it by learning effective and reliable ways to pack. Below are 8 must know packing tips for moving your home:

Label everything and take photos of electronics

During the packing process, make sure you are as organized as possible because if you are not organized, you will make a lot of mistakes.  Keep in mind basic packing tips:  package your bolts and screws into storage bags and label them. Label all your moving boxes.

Invest in quality moving boxes

One of the strongest mistakes that most people make is an attempt to put all their belongings in a few boxes around the house. To create easy-to-lift loads, ensure you use as many boxes as possible.

Don’t forget that if you load the truck, you will need heavier and lightweight boxes. So, always keep an eye on your boxes. Buy good moving boxes, and use it to move your items.

Create your very own setup kit

You should have kits that will enable you to set up your home such as:

  • Allen keys
  • A drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Hammer
  • Nails
  • Screws
  • A drill battery pack, and
  • Plug

Apparently, you need anything that will help you assemble your bed frames, get your house in order and reassemble chairs. Try minimizing senior belongings as much as you can. This will enable you to remain flexible should the circumstances change.

Pack Room by Room

When you start packing, it is important you pack room by room. Make sure you don’t leave anything behind. Keep in mind that some rooms are highly demanding to pack than others; such rooms require extreme carefulness and patience during the packing process. Some rooms have fragile, numerously small, and hard-to-pack items.

To pack successfully, you will need to get a variety of packing supplies like tape, markers, bubble wrap, packing paper, moving boxes etc.

Keep all perishables in one bag- this will make your move much easier. Dismantle large items such as shelves or tables and add them in one container or carton. Clean all your small appliances such as blenders, food processors, toasters, and ensure you tie the cords and remove all sharp blades.

Pack lamps and lampshades differently

It is not really easy to pack lamps and shades- they could be pretty fragile to pack.  Thus, to be on the safer side, you really need to pack them separately. Wrap the lamp and put it in a box, then nest your shades to each other.

Treat dishes and glasses with extra care

You need to be extremely careful when you are packing the dishes and glasses. Each of them needs their own specialized boxes. Put a layer of crushed paper both at the top and between the layers in the box. Don’t allow the dishes to mix up with the glasses.

Bundle long items together

If you are packing curtain rods, brooms, long-handled dusters, rakes and others, then try as much as possible to bundle them together with a tape.  Bundle long and short items, and keep them separately- please don’t mix them up.

Heavy stuff goes on the bottom

Packing is a process, it is an art. You need to master the art if you want to pack things in the proper order. Some of your valuables will spoil, if you didn’t pack well. While packing, ensure the heavy stuff is on the bottom, while light items can stay on top.

It is just like bagging your groceries, where you don’t want to crush your light items. So, heavy stuff will stay at the bottom, while light items will stay on top. Follow this method, and surely you will be happy you did.
