The most loved or most awful holiday tradition (according to parents) is “Elf on the Shelf”.

“Elf on the Shelf originated from a cherished family tradition started by Carol Aebersold in the 1970 where a pixie elf named Fisbee watched over her children and reported to Santa, and was later self-published as a book and kit in 2005 by Carol and her daughters, Chanda Bell and Christa Pitts, turning a personal ritual into a global phenomenon.”

Fortunately, the Elf made himself popular when “my kids” were too old.
