Property fraud, including deed fraud and mortgage fraud, is a growing concern in Ohio. Scammers target properties, especially those with no mortgage or with paid-off mortgages, by filing fraudulent documents with the recorders’ office.
To protect yourself, monitor your property records, sign up for fraud alert notifications, and be cautious of unsolicited offers to purchase your property.

….However, I found the easiest way to sign up for the alerts was to obtain my personal information from the Auditor’s Sites first and then sign up:
Look up your name, and the following will appear: Copy parcel number.
I found looking the parcel by name the easiet. For others, the address may give you the information. Once you have the Parcel ID use the bold links at the top of this page. Follow the instructions on how to sign up for fraud alerts. Most counties will register you by phone if you are having problems with process.
