Is downtown Cincinnati really thriving?

Bicycle Sharing in Cincinnati
We (hubby and me)  had the opportunity to spend a lot of time in downtown Cincinnati the past weekend. And while the saying goes perception is reality-I think it’s safe to say the reality seems to be reinforced by the amount of people roaming around downtown at all hours.  Busy hotel lobbies, a shortage a parking for people attending the “Broadway Series” at the Aronoff and the  fast disappearance  of the “red bikes” locate in Fountain Square.

Probably the best indicator of how busy things are downtown was the number of “red bikes” that disappeared during a 40 minute period Sunday morning.  We were out walking and passed Fountain Square around 10 Sunday morning and all the racks were filled with bikes.  A half hour later (picture above) several bikes had disappeared.  Add to the crowds of people staying at the newly opened Renaissance Hotel at 4th and Walnut- causing us to walk down 18 flights of stairs Sunday morning because we gave up hope after 4 or 5 crammed elevators left us with no alternative but to hike down stairs to breakfast.

Then the afternoon rush to see “Dirty Dancing” at the Aronoff forced our normal- park yourself-  parking lot trying to valet park cars and the traffic late in the afternoon was so bad that exiting the downtown area took 3x longer than normal.

So I think Cincinnati’s downtown is definitely bustling- and that’s the truth and personally I’m glad to see public and private groups are nurturing the activity.  If you haven’t been downtown recently-make a date and enjoy!
