5 Tips to Make Your Property Irresistible in Greater Cincinnati

If  live in greater Cincinnati and you’re about to put a house on the market or have had a house on the market for a while and it hasn’t been scooped up yet, there are a few things you can do to help potential buyers fall in love with your property.  It’s not quite as easy as spraying a can of fresh baked cookie scent during an open house, but it’ll be totally worth it in the end.

Here are 5 great tips to make your house more marketable:

  1. Curb Appeal
Of course, it’s a no brainer that the outside of the home is the first thing anyone is going to see and it needs to be kept tidy, but what about sprucing it up a bit too?  You can paint fresh address numbers on the curb, do some low-branch tree trimming, paint the shutters, plant a few low maintenance flowers like pansies or periwinkles and make sure the yard gets mowed every week in the summer and raked in the fall.
  2. Fresh Paint
Though you might think this is a waste of time because the new homeowners will probably want to pick out their own color choices when they move in—a coat of fresh paint can do wonders.  Select relatively neutral but warm tones rather than just a stark white, which can be a little shocking.  This will help the home look newer and well cared for as well.
  3. Surgically Clean
You may want to hire extra help for this particular task.  You’re not just looking to do the extra special ‘spring cleaning’ jobs like cleaning floor boards, you’re looking to wipe the slate clean.  Every square millimeter from the ceiling fan bases and blades to the back corners of the inside of kitchen and bathroom cabinets and drawers need to look like they’ve never been lived in.
  4. Fixtures & Knobs
You may not want to update major things like appliances or toilets, but little things like faucets, doorknobs and cabinet handles make big statements.  Consider updating them if they are several years old and out of fashion. It’s not a major overhaul and won’t take a contract worker, but it sure can refresh things.
  5. Steam Clean or Polish Floors
Dingy carpets, neglected hardwoods or dull linoleum floors can all distract from the true beauty of a home.  Rent a steam cleaner or have a service come and take care of the carpets. There’s just no other way to get them looking fresh.  Use a little elbow grease for the hardwoods and linoleum. When they shine they can really change the feel of a room.

Once everything has a fresh sheen to it, buyers will find your home hard to resist!
