Where is the Chicken or Egg in Downtown Cincinnati, Ohio?
June 9th, 2008 categories: Cincinnati, Ohio, Entertainment, Real Estate News
Yesterday we were downtown to see the last show in this year’s Broadway Series at the Aronoff. “Jersey’s Boys” was delightful, but finding a place to eat lunch before the matinee performance was - well frustrating.
Chicken or egg- on Sunday’s it is very evident that downtown Cincinnati is not the place to catch a quick lunch (or late breakfast) before attending the 1pm show.
Eateries around Fountain Square were either closed on Sunday or didn’t open until noon. There is a great place, First Watch, just north of the Aronoff. However, since it is one of the few places open before 11:30am on Sunday-it is always jammed and you wait 20-35 minutes for a table.
There were hoards of theater goers wandering around looking for someplace to eat…and finding very little to fulfill their needs.
I know weather and timing of activities downtown make it very difficult for restaurants to open early to serve a fickle group of matinee diners- but without some consistent, affordable eating places within walking distance of the theater- the theory of the chicken or egg for downtown will remain just that- a question.
Maybe it is time to crack a few eggs and allow the Aronoff to add tables and chairs and offer “box” lunches from a variety of downtown restaurants. It may take time to build a following- but maybe some out of the crate thinking will encourage business at all hours in downtown Cincinnati.
Let me know what your think.

Is There a Hidden Jewel in the Center of Fairfield Ohio?
May 7th, 2008 categories: Entertainment, Fairfield, Ohio, Real Estate News
In the heart of Fairfield Ohio sits there sits a shining example of community planning and investment in the arts.
Nestled off Pleasant Avenue (or Nilles) in the heart of Village Green, the Fairfield Community Arts Center stands prominently across from the Lane Public Library.
As you drive by in the afternoon a long line students can be seen marching there to enjoy after school activities and people of all ages are always streaming in and out of the building.
The Community Arts Center has been open for 3 years and I admit…I have yet to walk through the doors and enjoy all the benefits the Center offers. I was totally ignorant about the wide variety of events taking place and during a recent wedding reception that coworkers told us how excited they were about an upcoming concert…my husband and I turned to each other with the “deer in the headlights” look on our faces. Our kids have moved on and I have not stayed on top of “extra ciricular activies” available to us.
So I contacted the Manager of the Community Arts Center, Heidi Schiller, who was a great source of information. After talking to her, I am sorry that, among other things, I missed the Japanese Cultural Affair.
According to their web site the 40,000-square-foot Center houses a theater, arts studio, fitness studio, children’s room, senior lounge, community room and an art gallery. And the quarterly Fairfield Bulletin has an insert with details covering classes and upcoming events.
My bad- we have missed a lot a unique and reasonably priced events.
Not to mention the Community Arts Center is close to home and offers free parking!
Don’t wait for somebody to open your eyes to this “gem” in our midst. The next time you are out and about and Fairfield, stop by and visit the Community Arts Center. Who knows- you might run into your neighbors (or us)at a concert or an event.

If there is something you have enjoyed attending at the Community Arts Center or are planning to attend- please share by posting a comment below.

Fairfield Ohio is Attracting Antique Hunters
April 7th, 2008 categories: Entertainment, Fairfield, Ohio, Real Estate News

They are the typical hunters laden with checkbooks, cash and credit cards….hunting for the right piece to add to their collections! In search of the “great deal” they will be driving from all over to Fairfield, Ohio.
Last February I wrote a short blog about the “Ohio Valley Antique Mall” and was totally surprised by the emails and calls trying to track down more information. Good news, the mall is officially opening on Friday, April 25th @ noon. The “Celebration” (schedule) runs the whole weekend and will bring welcome traffic to area businesses on Route 4. I have yet to drive by the Mall without seeing lots of cars in the parking lot so I am guessing there will be many antiquers making the trek from Friday, April 24th through Sunday, April 27th.
So if you are in the area watch out for the antique hunters scoping out the Ohio Valley Antique Mall for their trophies.
