Foreclosure Assistance
Thursday, April 3rd, 2008The other day I wrote about how to understand the mortgage puzzle mess and promised to follow up with information to help property owners facing foreclosure. Well I learned a hard lesson -there aren’t any easy to find “one stop info” sites for southwest Ohio. However I was pleasantly surprised to discover the State of Ohio has a most comprehensive site, appropriately named “Save the Dream” with loads of information.
- The State of Ohio site has resources on “How Foreclosure Works” and the “Foreclosure Time-line“
- A crucial step is to “Contact the Mortgage Servicer” and the State also provides several mortgage servicer’s phone numbers
- For comprehensive information read “Help for Homeowners” which covers a variety of topics.
Clermont County has been very procative to assist property owners and are providing a good example for surrounding counties.
Hamilton County Resources Additional Hamilton County Resources: Home Ownership Center of Greater Cincinnati, Hamilton County Treasurer Help , Hamilton County Time-line
Also The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has published an informative brochure on “How to Avoid Foreclosure“.
Also your Realtor may be able to provide some assistance with tracking down the mortgage servicing contact or assisting you with a “Short Sale”. Not all Realtors are comfortable guiding their clients through short sales- so ask questions and make sure you are properly represented.
